60 FPS Storytelling: Animating 2D Vector Characters for Modern Browsers
Engineering silky-smooth micro-animations, GSAP timelines, and SVG morphs without sacrificing lighthouse scores or mobile frame rates.

Performance Is An Aesthetic Choice
Laggy frame drops shatter immersion faster than bad typography. When animating rich illustrated characters for the modern web, engineers must treat the GPU pipeline with surgical respect.
Three Golden Rules for Web Animation:
- **Strict GPU Offloading:** Never animate properties that trigger CPU layout or paint reflows (`width`, `height`, `top`, `margin`). Limit your transform choreographies strictly to `transform: translate3d/scale/rotate` and `opacity`.
- **Asset Tree Pruning:** Ensure all SVG paths are flattened and non-essential bezier anchor points are decanted before feeding vectors into GSAP timelines.
- **Reduced Motion Compliance:** Always inspect `@media (prefers-reduced-motion)` to ensure accessible, dignified still-frame presentations for sensitive users.
